ADA Monthly Professional - Bill Cross Jr

June, 2021

We'd like to introduce everyone to Bill Cross Jr, the American Darter's Association June Monthly Professional. As part of GLD Product's partnership with the ADA they have put us in touch with Bill so he could give us a quick look at his involvement in darting.

"Respect the game and pass it on to the next generation."
- Bill Cross Jr

How did you first get into darts? And what specifically about darts drew you to it?

I first started playing at the age of 14 when I would practice throwing with my Dad. As for the attraction to the game, it was hanging out with my Dad along with the team concept of the American Dart game.

What is a story you have of a game or moment throughtout your darting career?

I've had so many that it's hard to pick just one. The people that I've met and friendships made along the way are what you come to cherish the most.

Picking one, I'd have to go with my first National Singles title in 2003. After winning the first two games and then going to game five, with my opponent sitting on a one dart out, I took out a 126 ending on double 13 - which was my grandmother's favorite number. I still have her Lucky 13 pendant, which I was wearing that day.

Any advice for interested and new players?

It's fairly easy to get involved with the game of darts today, unlike when I first started. With the opportunity of being able to play online in all different levels from beginner to advanced. Finding groups online, getting the right equipment and keeping it fun.

Darters are a big family-friendly group that are more than welcome to help new shooters.

Any advice for those who've played for awhile?

Respect the game and pass it on to the next generation.

Favorite place to play darts?

My two favorite tournaments are the Virginia Beach Dart Classic and ADA Nationals. As for my favorite place, my home set-up, which I refer to as Sneeky Pete's satellite bar, is my go to place to pay.

Do you have any pre-match superstitions or things you always do before an important game?

Well my wife says that I'm OCD before a match/tournament. I can't divulge all my quirks. (laughs) I do like to loosen up with a few choice adult beverages. During a match, I always throw my darts in order: red, white and then the blue - flight colors - and can be heard saying "Hey Now"!

We'd like to once again thank Bill for taking the time to talk with us a little bit about darts. If you have any questions you'd like to ask the pros feel free to leave a comment, and if you think you have what it takes to be a pro darter and want to learn more, click HERE.
